Family of Murphey,House,Codding, Dickerson, and the Mayflower
These pages deal with the ancestors and descendants of five families, starting with the "Descendants of Charles Murphey". Charles was born before 1800, and he may have spent some time in Maryland as Edmond was born there on September 4,1818 according to West Virginia Census Records. Edmond married Pheobe McDevitt Davis on January 28,1838 in Keyser,West Virginia. They resided in Keyser raising a family of eleven children. An Edmond Murphy(ey) is shown in the 1840 Hampshire County Census, and again in 1850 along with five children, and finally in the 1860 Federal Census of Mineral County,W.V. with wife and nine children. Secondly, I've researched and recorded the family of John House of England in the "Descendants of John House". Johns' son, William, married Sarah Bidwell of Hartford Connecticut. They married before 1670 and had three children. The family latter migrated from Connecticut into New York and then to Iowa. It was there, two brothers, Alponso and Hubert married their 1st cousins once removed, Annette and Julia House - daughters of George F. House. For some time the ancestors of both George F.,and Josiah House were a mystery. Part of my research into these families lead to finding new "family" - what genealogy is all about. For more information on the House Family be sure to check the "Wiggins Family Home Page" and "The Jeromey Ward Home Page" using the links below. The "Descendants of William Codding" is dedicated to the memory of my Grandmother Lynne Codding Murphey, who started me on this venture, and to all the Coddings who have helped put it all together. It, along with other Codding pages on the web, compiles the most on the Codding family in America today. It will also, I hope once and for all, put to rest the myth that Coddings are descendants of Coddingtons. Starting with William Codding of Cornwall, England, born in 1580, this traces the Codding family from their setteling in Massachusetts, and following the colonist dream as they "go west young man". My sincere thanks to Mark Louis Codding for all his work and help on this site. The "Descendants of John Alden" shows my family link to John Alden and Prisilla Mullens and the family of Thomas Rogers of the Mayflower to the Codding family. As I add to the notes of the Codding and Alden/Rogers descendants, it will be interesting to note that the descendants of both families had some interaction during the early history of the settlement of America. The "Descendants of Philemon Dickerson" is dedicated to my wife, Jan Marleen Dickerson Murphey. Her ancestors were amongst the earliest settlers of Southold, Long Island. This report is also in the process of growth - notes will be added. These pages will continue to grow as more contribute, and my hope is that our families will always be "works in progress" Information for the Alden Report came in part from a book titled: "David Benton and Nancy Pitts - Their Ancestors and Descendants - 1620 - 1920", collected and arranged by Edtith E. Davenport, and printed in 1921 by The DuBois Press, Rochester, NY. Shirley Mae House of Bristol, WI. provided information for the descendants of Samuel House, son of Jeremiah. Information on the parents of George F. House was provided by Stacy Becker of Colorado - a descendant of Mary Mellisa House, daughter of Jeremiah House II. Some photos were provided by her mother, Mary Ellen Jochim of Arizona. Information about the descendats of John William Brickley and Mary Mellisa House was also provided by Mary Ellen Jochim. Harry M. House, a descendant of Alphonso and Annette House, and the son of Harry and Bertha provided information about the House family. Sources of information for the Murphey family are based on research and information gathered by George Dennis Murphey, Lynne Codding Murphey, Forrest L. Coling Jr., Beulah Oswalt Thompson, Don Coling, and Joseph Edward Eichar.
